Summer is just around the corner and more outdoor events will be taking place in Downtown Springfield.
But residents are seeing a lot of construction downtown, which they say makes it harder to get around.
A lot of streets downtown are covered in cones.
We spoke with some Springfield residents on Monday and they said although they’re looking forward to the summer season downtown, they hope the construction ends soon.
Road closures, cones, and caution tape, that’s what some areas of Downtown Springfield look like right now.
Springfield resident Rachel Smith spends a lot of time in Downtown Springfield with her granddaughter.
"We spend almost the whole day down here but with all this construction, I might have to find another place to start walking. I can’t do that with her," Smith said.
With many events set to happen in Downtown Springfield this summer, Executive Director of Downtown Springfield Inc, Kayla Graven said the summer is always an exciting season downtown.
"There's a lot of stuff going on downtown...Construction is always a sign that things are improving, things are happening, and people are investing in downtown so construction is not always a scary thing for us. it's always a positive for us, and we're excited to see it happening," Graven said.
Graven said she tries to communicate with downtown businesses as quickly as possible about any closures or construction. She said they also post on social media to get the messages out to the public.
But she says sometimes, local businesses suffer.
"We have a really great working relationship with the City of Springfield. We work with Public Works, they always send us any information, any road closures, even sudden last-minute road closures happening," Graven said.
Some Springfield residents say it’s too much construction.
"It might deteriorate some of the tours too. I mean, how are they supposed to do it with all of this and not knowing the streets anyways, all these one ways? You have enough problem with that and now you got construction on them," Smith said.

Spokeswoman Haley Wilson told me one of the best ways to get updates on road closures and work is through the city’s newsletter.
Some summer events have already started in Downtown Springfield such as the Old Capitol Farmer’s Market.
This Thursday will be the first concert for the Levitt AMP Concert Series downtown.
