A Springfield lawmaker is expressing frustration in the aftermath of his first state budget process.

Republican state Representative Mike Coffey was appointed to his seat back in January; he says it’s “unconscionable” for the legislature to approve a budget in the middle of the night on a holiday weekend, especially one that he says puts nearly a million dollars toward health care for illegal immigrants when many Illinois residents struggle to pay for health care.

Coffey also objects to legislative pay raises that are included in the spending plan.
