Gas prices around Illinois remain where they’ve been as Memorial Day weekend is underway

Gas prices around Illinois are holding steady as the busy holiday weekend gets underway.

In Springfield, the average price for regular unleaded stood at $3.54 a gallon Saturday, virtually unchanged from a day earlier, but down almost four cents from a week ago; the statewide average was also flat at $3.95 a gallon.

It’s a much improved picture from this time last year, when prices were more than a dollar a gallon higher on their way to an all-time record high in early June.
