The Springfield City Council has approved zoning modifications that will allow for the installation of two new electronic digital billboards on the city’s west side.

The request from the Lamar sign company was approved after some changes to ensure that the billboard images will not change faster than every eight to ten seconds and will not include scrolling, flashing, or animated graphics.

The two new signs would go up at Monroe and Veterans, and at Chatham and Wabash.

Two other similar signs have already been put up. Alderwoman Erin Conley says she’s heard no complaints about the existing signs, and notes the company donates space on the electronic signs to promote non-profits and community events.
