SPOKANE, Wash. --- Every Memorial Day , Fairmount Memorial Association hosts events that honor veterans who have died and those who are still here in our community.
On Memorial Day, there's a Heroes' Pancake Breakfast that's open to the public at Heritage Funeral Home at 8:30 a.m.
It costs $3 to attend and is free for veterans and service personnel. All proceeds go to the Spokane Police Chaplaincy.
Following the breakfast, there's a Flag Cruise through Riverside Memorial Park happening from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
There are also three services happening this Memorial Day:
Greater Spokane Elks #228 Memorial Service at Spokane Memorial Gardens at 10 a.m.
Flag Retirement Service at Pines Cemetery at 11 a.m.
Melvin M. Smith Detachment Marine Corps League Memorial Day Service at Fairmount Memorial Park at 11 a.m.
Thousands of flags are displayed at Greenwood, Riverside, Fairmount, Pines and Spokane Memorial Gardens every Memorial Day Weekend.
Whether you're attending an event, or just want to remember and reflect, it's open for anyone to visit.
You can also be a part of helping keep the flags flying every year by participating in the Veterans Flag Program.
Buy a commemorative flag for $295 to honor a veteran in your life, $695 for a plaque and it costs $75 to donate to preserve the flags and help get old ones replaced.
