First responder training exercise in Spirit Lake, Athol on Wednesday

KOOTENAI COUNTY, ID -- Don't be surprised if you see dozens of police, EMTs, and firefighters in Spirit Lake and Athol Wednesday.

The Kootenai County Office of Emergency Management is hosting a full-scale training exercise for over a dozen agencies around the county.

The exercise will be at Timberlake High School in Spirit Lake and Real Life Ministries in Athol from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The purpose is to assess how local first responders plan and execute their plans during an active threat scenario in collaboration with other agencies.

Some of the participating agencies include Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, Coeur d'Alene Fire, the FBI, and Idaho State Police.

Only authorize personnel will be allowed at the two sites during the exercise.
