Worcester County Food Truck Showdown May 6 in Spencer

For five hours on a Saturday in May, the Worcester County food truck scene will have a special day once again this year in Spencer. 

Over 30 food trucks will line up May 6 at the Spencer Fairgrounds at 48 Smithville Road for the annual food truck festival known as the 2023 Worcester County Food Truck Showdown, according to a statement by organizers WooTrucks. 

The showdown will be open to the public for a $5 fee from noon until 5 p.m. and free for those under 12. 

The event will also feature over 50 artisanal craft vendors, music performances and yard games including cornhole, giant blocks and ladder toss.

Worcester's The Dogfather food truck was a popular destination for hungry visitors at the fifth annual Food Truck Festival in Gardner in 2022. More than 20 food trucks took part in the event, which saw the streets around City Hall closed off to traffic.

Activities will also include a chance to win free food, prizes, discounts and giveaways throughout the day. 

Handpicked judges taste the food to judge for “best of Worcester County food trucks” and “people’s choice” awards — two important titles for food truck owners often considered badges of honor in the industry. 

WooTrucks is a Boylston-based commissary with a brick-and-mortar location at 67 Main St. where it offers help for the development of local food trucks.

Mark Gallant, owner of the food truck The Dogfather, also owns WooTrucks and runs food truck festivals throughout the region and facilitates bringing food trucks to corporate clients, private businesses, breweries, academic institutions, and city and town governments. 

Other food truck festivals are held in Worcester, Spencer, Sturbridge, Marlborough, Rutland and Fitchburg, according to the WooTrucks website.
