Des Moines, Ia (KICD) – The Spencer Tiger Girls Soccer team ran in to North Scott for the Class 2A State Quarter-Final Tournament.

North Scott got off to a good start in the contest, controlling the possession for the first 10+ minutes of play. Lancer Forward Reese Hilsenbeck was able to get behind the back line with 35:09 on the clock and caught Spencer Goalie Aubrie Stell in a tough spot, scoring the goal and putting North Scott up 1-0.

The Tigers would begin to take control around the 25-minute mark in the first half, keeping the ball on the North Scott side of the field, but struggled to find open shots. The closest opportunity came when an Aliza Edwards shot hit the bottom of the Cross bar but fell in front of the goal line. No Spencer Tiger could follow, and the score was 1-0 going into the half.

The second half was all Lancers. North Scott controlled possession for a significant majority of the last 40 minutes. North Scott’s team leader in Goals, Kendall Knisley would hit a Penalty Kick with 37:15 in the second half to give the Lancers a 2-0 lead, and then Hilsenbeck found the back of the net for the second time of the afternoon at 29:03. North Scott came away with a 3-0 win and advance to face #2 seed Dallas Center-Grimes in the 2A Semi-Finals.

Spencer’s season comes to an end at 15-4 overall in the Class 2A Quarterfinals. They were 9-0 this season in the Northwest Iowa Soccer League, bringing home their second league title in the 2 years of NWISL’s existence.
