Sparta High School Boys Lacrosse Honors 2024 Seniors

SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta High School boys lacrosse team honored the 2024 seniors at halftime of their game against Roxbury on Thursday.
Goalie Parker Hein , wearing #29 was met at centerfield by his parents Karina and Erik. He has played lacrosse since he was in first grade and plays on Thunder and True New Jersey lacrosse travel teams.
In addition, Hein was captain of the winter track team. He is a member of DECA, student council, Model UN and Key Club.
Hien said he would” like to thank his coaches for helping turn him into the lacrosse player and person he is today.” He would also like to thank his mom and dad for supporting him and help make him who he is. Finally he would like to “thank his older brother Lukas for being a great role model and a big influence on him.”
Hein will be attending Indiana University to pursue a degree in economics.
Defenseman Tahg Herbison , wearing #8 was escorted by his parents Stacey and Chuck and brother Stone. He has played lacrosse for seven years including with Sparta youth, GSLA and True New Jersey.
Herbison would “like to thank his parents for signing him up in the first place” and his coaches “for supporting him through his journey as a hockey player.”
Off the lacrosse field, Herbison is a member of the National Honor Society and World Language Honor Society. He was a captain on the varsity football team, a member of the Spartan wrestling squad and Unified basketball partner.
Herbison volunteers with Unified sports, Special Olympics and other community organizations.
He will be attending Northeastern University to study finance and plans to play club sports.
Long Stick Midfielder, Greg Peters , wearing #9 was escorted by his parents Lisa and Bob, sister Kaitlyn and brother Matt.
Peters has been on a lacrosse team for nine years, playing with True New Jersey and Thunder. His favorite lacrosse member was “ringing the bell after beating Mendham in the playoffs last year.”
He has also played football for 14 years.
Peters said he would like to thank his family, friends, coaches and teammates for “making high school lacrosse an unforgettable experience. After graduating from Sparta High School Peters plans to continue his lacrosse career playing Division 1 at Virginia Military Institute. His plans to study business and finance.
Attacker and captain Hunter Takacs , wearing #7 was escorted by Natalie and Lou Takacs and sisters Alex and Bailey. Takacs has played lacrosse since kindergarten at the youth, school and club team levels.
Takacs has been the captain of the varsity football team and captain of the Unified basketball team. He is the president of Unified Leadership Committee and a volunteer for Special Olympics, Sparta youth sports, the Sparta VFW and other community organizations.
He said he would like to thank his parents for “driving him around to countless practices and tournaments throughout the years, their constant support and dedication has helped him get to where he is today. ” He would also ”like to thank Coach Peterson, Coach Brennan and Coach Viegas for pushing the team excellence.”
Finally he would like to “thank his teammates for showing up every day and working as hard as possible so this year can be a successful and enjoyable one.”
Takacs is heading to St. Thomas Aquinas College where he will be majoring in business management and playing for the men’s’ lacrosse team.
Goalie Tate Wood , wearing #55 was met at centerfield by Erin and Jason. Wood is relatively new to lacrosse, beginning his career as a junior for the Sparta Spartans.
He said he would, “like to thank Coach Peterson and Coach Viegas for always being there and being such great coaches.”
Wood is actively involved with the Student Council and HOSA a club for future health professionals. He is considering a career in biology, with the aspiration of becoming a doctor.
The boys finished the game on top, beating Roxbury 12-9.
