The Sparks Police Department (SPD) released the footage of the officer-involved shooting that killed the suspect at the Sparks shopping center the night of May 30, 2023.
According to SPD Deputy Chief Tara Edmonson, dispatch received multiple calls about a woman yelling for help in the 600 block of East Prater Way. At that time, callers stated a man who is holding a machete was yelling at a woman in the parking lot of the Iron Horse Shopping Center.
Callers described the suspect as a white male with dirty blonde wearing blue jeans and a gray shirt.
"The Rock Church Thrift Store off of Prater, there's a dude with a machete," said one caller.
When officers arrived, they were able to locate the suspect matching the description given by the callers. Officers then gave the suspect multiple commands to stop, but the suspect ignored them and ran.
During foot chase, officers saw that he was holding a knife. He was told to drop the knife, but he turned and ran towards an officer with the knife still in hand, which resulted to an officer-involved shooting.
Officers shot the suspect and immediately began medical aid. He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect was identified as 29-year-old Dylan Wilson.
Investigation revealed Wilson he was in possession of a black folding knife.
