The annual Free Fishing Day event for children is June 10 at the Sparks Marina.

Free Fishing Day is June 10 in Nevada, which means no fishing license is required to fish anywhere in the state that day. It's also a chance for children to learn how to fish with instructors with greatly improved odds of catching a fish.

The Rotary Club of Sparks, in partnership with the City of Sparks and Nevada Department of Wildlife, will host the annual Kids' Free Fishing Event on Saturday, June 10 at the Sparks Marina from 7 to 11 a.m.

The fishing event is free for all kids 17 years old and younger. All youth must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult.

Registered youth for this event may fish at this location without a fishing license. Registration will be on the day of the event only on the south side of Sparks Marina.

The chances to catch a fish should be enhanced as the Marina will be stocked with more than 7,000 trout during the week before the event.

Fishing poles and bait will be provided while supplies last.

Volunteers will be on hand to help young angers learn how to prepare the hook, then cast it and reel fish in.

Face-painting and other activities also will be available.

This event has been held for more than 20 years, although it was on hiatus during the pandemic. Organizers expect a big turnout of local youth and their parents/guardians. Past attendance ranged from a few hundred people to more than 2,000.

Also, an adaptive fishing clinic for disabled and special-needs children will be held on Thursday at the Sparks Marina, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
