A man has been arrested on multiple charges including vehicle theft after foot chase in Sparks, police said.
According to the Sparks Police Department (Sparks PD), detectives with the Regional Suppression Unit (RCSU) first identified Humberto Garcia-Aguilar on February 2, 2023 for driving a stolen vehicle. Police attempted to arrest him in Reno, but Garcia fled on foot while holding a gun, which was later discarded during the chase. The stolen vehicle and the gun were recovered, but Garcia was not arrested at the time and the vehicle was returned to the owner.
On March 10, 2023, Garcia was again identified after stealing over $1,400 worth of liquor from a Walmart located at Vista Knoll in Reno. Six days later, on March 16, he was identified for stealing electronics at a Walmart located at West 7th St. in Reno. Later that day, he was identified for driving another stolen vehicle in the Sparks area.
Sparks PD said the vehicle was parked at the Safeway on Vista Blvd., and just before Garcia returned to the vehicle, RCSU detectives attempted to arrest him once again. Garcia immediately fled on foot and a K-9 was deployed. The K-9 bit Garcia, but he was able to escape and entered residential backyards, he was later arrested while attempting to climb over a fence.
Detectives also found that Garcia was in possession of methamphetamine while he was arrested. The stolen vehicle was recovered and returned to the owner.
Garcia is charged with the following:
- Two counts of possession of stolen vehicle
- Obstructing and resisting with a deadly weapon
- Ex-felon in possession of firearm
- Carrying a concealed weapon without a permit
- Possession of a controlled substance
- Obstructing and resisting
- Petit larceny
- Grand larceny (pending)
