(St. George) A fire at the Port Clyde waterfront has destroyed multiple buildings. The Pen Bay Pilot reports the fire began at the Dip Net Restaurant about 10:30 Wednesday evening and quickly spread to other nearby businesses. In all, ten towns joined in battling the St. George blaze, and investigators were on the scene until early Thursday evening. No injuries were reported, but a gallery that held several Jamie Wyeth original paintings was destroyed. Investigators say given the scope of the fire, it could take days to conclude the investigation.
First responders work together on risky rescue
ACADIA NAT’L PARK — A rescue on the Ship Harbor Trail over the weekend drew every fire department on Mount Desert Island to the scene. Fire and EMS departments from Mount Desert, Tremont, Bar Harbor and the National Park Service joined Southwest Harbor to carry out a risky extraction.

It was a very scary situation that unfolded in the blink of an eye on Sunday afternoon in the town of Ellsworth, Maine. According to WGME 13, an Ellsworth police officer was traveling down the road on Sunday afternoon when he reportedly noticed a speeding vehicle coming the other way. The officer didn't want to waste any time in catching up to the alleged speeder, so he pulled into the breakdown lane and prepared to do a U-turn to catch up to the vehicle, the news station said.

ELLSWORTH, Maine — An Ellsworth police officer was involved in a crash Sunday afternoon that left two other people hurt. The Hancock County Sheriff's Office said Officer Zachary Chandler was trying to make a U-turn in his police cruiser using the breakdown lane at the intersection of Bucksport Road and Twin Hill Road when he hit an SUV that was driving past.

It has been about a month since the boating incident in Winter Harbor where both an antique boat and a dock were heavily damaged at night by a 50-foot luxury boat. So far there apparently have been no charges filed (or at least made public) and nothing more reported by your paper. This smells like rotten fish with some privileged people being held up above the law. Certainly boat ownership of both boats involved must be known and of public record. We would like to know more. Fatal motorcycle accident in Stonington
According to a Hancock County Sheriff’s report, Deer Isle resident Lionel J. Nault, 30, was riding his motorcycle south on Burnt Cove Road at around 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, September 17. As he crested a hill, he swerved to avoid a utility truck doing power line inspections. Nault lost control of his motorcycle and was fatally injured. First responders pronounced him “deceased at the scene.”
