Victim identified in fatal hit-and-run in Southport; man charged in crime posts bail

SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WECT) - The Southport Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run case.

According to a press release from the Southport Police Department, officers found an unresponsive woman laying in the 300 block of E. 8th Street at around 4:15 Saturday morning.

Police have identified the victim as 49-year-old Jennifer Anne Moyer of Southport.

It was later determined that Moyer was struck by a vehicle that left the area; she was pronounced dead at the scene.

37-year-old Anthony Wayne Overman Jr. was arrested Saturday afternoon in connection to the case. Overman is charged with involuntary manslaughter, hit and run inflicting serious injury or death, failure to report accident, and failure to reduce speed.

Overman posted bail before his scheduled court appearance on May 30. His next court date is scheduled for June 15th.
