The owners of 14 historic flat top cottages in Southern Shores are opening their doors Saturday for a self-guided tour that will again benefit the Outer Banks Community Foundation Flat Top Preservation Fund.

The tour features cottages built in the style of Frank Stick during the mid-century — only approximately 25 remain as flat tops. Tickets are $10 and available online at southernshoreshistoricflattops.ticketleap.com or in person at the tour’s table at Southern Shores Crossing at 1 Ocean Blvd. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In 2016, the Town of Southern Shores established a local Historic Landmark program to bring awareness to the historical significance of properties. All five of the flat tops designated as Southern Shores Historic Landmarks will be on the tour, including Sokol/Clements Cottage at 23 Porpoise Run; Seaquel at 142 Ocean Blvd; the Clarke/Gudas Cottage at 156 Wax Myrtle Trail; Edith Pipkin’s “Pink Perfection” at 170 Ocean Blvd. and the Mackey Cottage at 218 Ocean Blvd.

The flat top owned by the town of Southern Shores at 13 Skyline Road will also be open for the tourgoers.
