Southampton Police: Homeless Man Arrested After Fatally Stabbing Another Man

Suffolk County Police on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 arrested a man after he stabbed a man to death in Riverside.
 
Southampton Town Police responded to Nugent Drive, west of Woodhull Avenue, after a report of a man being stabbed at approximately 3:25 p.m. The victim, who has not yet been identified by police, was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. 
 
Following an investigation, Southampton Town Police placed Gelber Lopez-Perez in custody.
 
Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives charged Lopez-Perez, 20, who is undomiciled, with Murder 2nd Degree. He will be held overnight at the Southampton Town Police Department. Lopez-Perez is scheduled to be arraigned at Southampton Town Justice Court in Hampton Bays later today.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
