SOUTH PORTLAND (WGME) – The city of South Portland says it’s still not safe to open Willard Beach.

Stormwater Coordinator Fred Dillon says crews got right to work when the pipe burst last week, and it was repaired the next day.
They are going to continue to test the water until bacteria levels drop to safer levels.
“We are doing what we can to minimize exposure of the public,” Dillon said. “We want a clean swimming beach for the residents and the visitors who go to Willard Beach.”

The mayor hopes all the rain this week will help flush the beach as well.
