I have fond memories of the South Haven Big Boy. I'm nuts about a salad bar, so that was always my jam, and who doesn't love a breakfast buffet? In high school, my best friend worked there -- I even actually went on my first date ever at that Big Boy!

South Haven, Mich., Big Boy to Be Sold

Well, after 26 years, the family who owns and operates the South Haven, Mich. Big Boy on 73rd St. has announced they are selling the restaurant.

The Smith family shared the news to Facebook saying,

To the Great Community of South Haven, For the past 26+ years our family has owned and operated the South Haven Big Boy Franchise. It saddens us to say the time has come for us to move on from this venture.

What Will Happen to the South Haven Big Boy?

The good news is that is sounds like Big Boy will live on!

The Smith family says they are selling the restaurant to the corporate entity of Big Boy:

The goal the entire time of these talks has been, and continues to be, to preserve Big Boy’s standing in the community. With hopes that the Big Boy tradition will continue in the South Haven area, we will cease operational function the day after April 8th 2023. We hope to see the new ownership and management get it up and running like normal, as quickly as possible in the coming weeks, allowing only a short-term disruption in Big Boy service from that date.

So the Smith family will be done operating the South Haven Big Boy as of April 9, 2023.

It sounds like the restaurant may close for a bit during the transition, but the hope is that it will be up and running before too long.
