Excitement is in the air, with the Sunburst races now less than a day away.
This South Bend tradition will celebrate its 39th year as four different events take place Saturday, with the first race starting at 7 a.m.
Runners have been streaming in all day to get checked in.
This year's race will look a little different, including the new start location at the Jefferson Bridge.
And the finish line is no longer at Notre Dame stadium, but instead back at the bridge.
One thing remains the same – all proceeds and donations from the race will benefit Beacon Children's Hospital.
The race director tells WSBT she understands some are disappointed they’ll no longer end up at Notre Dame Stadium, but the change has a big logistical benefit.
“The reaction has been kind of mixed, so Notre dame was a big draw, a big finish, but a lot of people just understand that it was important for us to be in downtown South Bend. A lot of people like that we are having the start and finish in the same location, so they don’t have to deal with the headache with shuttles,” said Courtney Kipker.
Temperatures are expected to be warm tomorrow during the races.
“This whole week, I’ve just been drinking a lot of water, I’m a Liquid IV user, so I’ve been drinking that every day, just trying to prep and not be too dehydrated for Saturday,” said Amanda Bender, running 5k.
Aid stations, an ambulance, and a fully stocked medical tent are all going to be on hand, making sure runners and racegoers stay safe Saturday.
Sunburst’s race director says they’re getting 120 bags of ice delivered to help keep things cool.
One runner says initially, she wasn't sure if she wanted to do the race with it not finishing at Notre Dame Stadium.
She says she changed her mind because the race itself means so much more than just where it finishes.
