A somber ceremony at St. Joseph Polish Roman Catholic Cemetery, west of South Bend this morning.
Families and loved ones gathered as names of veterans who died in the past year were read.
The ceremony also included the playing of taps as well as a 21 gun volley.
South Bend Mayor James Mueller was on hand for the ceremony and says it's important to remember what today signifies.
“We read the names of our fallen soldiers that we've lost since the last time we gathered here last year and that's critical, we'll get to celebrations of barbecues and other things later today, but for the morning, it's important to remember what this day is about, why it's a national holiday, and make sure we honor and remember those who have fallen,” said Mayor James Mueller
South Bend Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski was also on hand to help read the names of those who passed.
