Motels4Now has been using the Knights Inn on Lincolnway West for a few years.
Today, the building is officially theirs and Bishop Kevin Rhoades was on hand to bless the shelter.
Bishop Kevin Rhoades of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend visited Motels4Now for the first time today.
He is grateful the organization can continue their mission.
Thanks to $1.5 million of American Rescue Plan funds, Motels4Now was officially able to purchase the Knights Inn building, creating another space for South Bend's homeless to find shelter.
Short term goals include improving the rooms and offices, to make it the best it can be.
Additional fundraisers will be held starting this summer to work toward those goals.
The long-term goal does not change, providing a place for the homeless to be sheltered while they get back on their feet.
And that's something that Bishop Kevin Rhoades says is an integral part of the Catholic faith.
"They’ve fallen on hard times, no doubt. Many have made mistakes. But we want them to know that they are valuable. They have infinite worth in the eyes of God,” said Rhoades.
Motels4Now will be welcoming its 600th guest tonight and hope to help more people in the future.
