2025 Notre Dame DB Target Trey McNutt Set To See South Bend

After picking up an offer from Notre Dame earlier this month, Trey McNutt III‍ will make his way to South Bend on Wednesday.

“I'll be up there for spring practice,” the 2025 Ohio athlete told Irish Sports Daily.

“I want to learn more about the culture, the school, and how the school is. I know the school is nice. How the academics are and stuff, the culture and how the work ethic is and stuff out there.”

The Shaker Heights High School star found out about his Irish offer in advance of this month’s Pot of Gold day.

“We were on the phone for a few minutes, just talking,” McNutt said. “I was talking to multiple coaches on the phone. They seemed really cool. They all had their leprechaun hats on. And, the safeties coach extended the offer to me.

“I was trying not to go so crazy on the phone, but after the phone call, I was super excited. I even gave my coach a hug and everything.”

McNutt has over a dozen offers from schools like Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Purdue, South Carolina and Pitt among others, but the Irish offer certainly caught his attention.

“It just seemed like an accomplishment,” he said. “It's a really big offer. It's a nice school, a big school. It just gave me joy.”

McNutt has spent much of his time talking with Notre Dame’s Director of High School Scouting, Dre Brown.

“He's really cool,” McNutt said of Brown. “Some of my friends know him. I know my dad knows him. He's really cool.

McNutt has already visited Wisconsin and Northwestern this week and stops at Pitt and Ohio State will follow Notre Dame.

It’s still too early for McNutt to start naming favorites or even identifying what will be most important to him.

“I can't even say right now because I'm so young. But I I want to be a place where I actually feel like I'm going to succeed.”
