Notre Dame Checks All The Boxes For Linebacker Bodie Kahoun
With spring practice officially kicking off on Wednesday, the Notre Dame staff is focused on beginning to lay their ground work with the 2023 version of the Irish squad. Along with that excitement, there are several key recruits who will be traveling on campus, which started with Roanoke (Va.) Patrick Henry linebacker Bodie Kahoun on the first day.
The Virginia native has quickly become a player that the Notre Dame staff values tremendously. Despite growing up in Indiana, this was Kahoun and his family’s first chance to check out South Bend. It exceeded their high expectations, with both the football and lacrosse staff.
“The visit went very well,” Kahoun said. “Conversations with both the football and lacrosse coaches were all great the whole time. I am definitely looking forward to talking more with both moving forward.”
Kahoun has been developing a great relationship with the Notre Dame staff over the last couple of months. That continued on Wednesday, while his family also got the chance to explore everything that makes South Bend so special.
It was a day of affirmation and understanding. The family left with all questions answered.
“My family all loved it too,” the Virginia star explained. “They hit everything we needed to see today to check all the boxes.”
Positionally, the Irish staff sees Kahoun fitting in as a MIKE linebacker in their system. In their conversations, the staff made a interesting comparison for Kahoun as a player.
“The staff sees me fitting in perfectly,” he began to explain. “They compared me to one of their linebackers, No. 27 (JD Bertrand). They said that I have his build, frame and have very similar athleticism to him.”
Kahoun has been on record that he wants to make an official decision before June, which means he only has a couple of months to explore all of his options. After this recent visit, it’s hard not to like Notre Dame’s chances. The family enjoyed the visit so much that they do anticipate making it back to campus over the next couple of months.
This trip was about exploring the fit for Kahoun and the Notre Dame staff. When asked about his perspective on whether he fits following that visit, the talented linebacker kept it simple.
“100 percent.”
The 6-3, 220-pound star has a constantly expanding offer list. Some of the notable programs that have offered so far include the Irish, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia Tech, Virginia, NC State, West Virginia and Indiana among others.
The dual-sport star is currently one of the top athletes on the 5-A level in Virginia. Despite his obvious connection to the state of Virginia, Kahoun actually did grow up in Zionsville, Indiana. He has his Midwest roots and should be very aware of the brand that Notre Dame boasts.
Kahoun is also a standout lacrosse player for Patrick Henry. The star midfielder has been committed to Ohio State for lacrosse since September of 2022. His ability to potentially play football, or both sports, in college could change for him to explore a different option.
