South Bend Police arrested a woman over the weekend after she crashed into a fence and fought officers, all in the presence of a young child.
Police say they were called out to a home on South 24th street just before 2 a.m. on Sunday after a call came in that a vehicle crashed into a fence.
When they arrived, police say they saw 20-year-old Durojai Mason get out of the driver seat of a vehicle that had a metal fence under the bumper.
Mason allegedly told officers she had been drinking before driving, and that she had never learned how to drive.
Officials state they found a young child in the back seat of the vehicle that was not in a car seat or a seatbelt.
Authorities say they were threatened several times by Mason while they conducted sobriety tests on her.
Due to the weather, police told Mason the sobriety test should be completed at the police station.
Mason then allegedly punched one of the officers.
Police say they took Mason down to the ground, where she kicked, bit and spit at officers.
Authorities state they were able to get Mason into the back seat of the patrol car when she then started kicking the window multiple times.
Mason was arrested and taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.
She is now facing several charges including three counts of Battery Against a Public Safety Official, Battery with Bodily Injury to a Public Safety Officer, Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Endangering a Person, Neglect of a Dependent and Knowingly or Intentionally Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Ever Receiving a License, among other charges.
