The South Bend Adams High School band is playing some different tunes this week.
They are playing in place of the Creighton University pep band for the NCAA Women's Tournament at Notre Dame.
The Creighton Blue Jays are in town for the NCAA women's basketball tournament. But you will not hear their pep band playing their fight song this week.
It all started with an email from the Creighton University athletic department to Adams band director Kevin Graham
An opportunity for his students to play and represent the Blue Jays at the NCAA Women's Basketball tournament, taking place this week at Notre Dame.
In addition to getting a chance to perform, the university is also making a sizable donation to the band for every game they play.
Graham has previous similar experience and wanted to make sure his kids got the same chance.
“How cool is this?”
“That was actually one of the reasons I jumped on it so quickly, when I was in college, I did this a couple times at my university, and that's one of my favorite memories when I was in the university pep band so when we got this opportunity from Creighton, I immediately jumped on it because I knew the students would have the same experience I did,” said Graham.
While there are 100 kids in the Adams pep band, only 29 were chosen to play inside the arena, so it's exclusive company.
