Standout Texas Linebacker Elijah Barnes "Excited" About Offer From Notre Dame

Star Texas linebacker Elijah Barnes gives insight into recent Pot of Gold offer from Notre Dame

On St. Patrick’s Day every year, the Notre Dame staff extends a flurry of offers as a part of their Pot of Gold offer extravaganza. On Friday, an offer was extended to talented 2025 Dallas (Texas) Skyline linebacker Elijah Barnes.

In an interview with Irish Breakdown, Barnes went in depth on the offer and his early opinions of the Notre Dame program. That program, for him, is one that he does not take lightly.

“The moment I got the offer, I was excited because I know how big this opportunity is,” Barnes said. “Many people don’t get this opportunity and I felt very blessed, Coach Al Golden was the one who extended me the offer. I was also talking to Coach Dre (Brown) as well. He was the first person I talked to from there.”

Even after that initial question, Barnes continued to just reiterate how grateful he was for the opportunity that the staff presented him.

“My initial thought on the offer was just thinking that I’m really blessed and it just made me want to work harder, push myself past my limits and strive for more,” Barnes added.

This day has quickly turned into a spectacle for the Notre Dame program and everyone involved on the recruiting side. It is a unique, fun and inviting way to highlight some of the top high school football players in the 2025 recruiting class. It also, for Barnes, shows just how few players that could potentially fit at a place like Notre Dame.

“I think the Pot of Gold thing is great,” he began to explain. “It just shows how many people get the offer around the country and appreciate how rare it is. Not many get that type of opportunity. My recruiting process has been good. I have picked up a couple of offers these past weeks but this is the biggest one for sure.”

Barnes has an expanding offer list, which has grown exponentially over the last couple of weeks. Some of his notable offers include the Fighting Irish, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Baylor, Purdue and Missouri among others.

The 6-2, 210-pound linebacker plays on a less than stellar Skyline team but pops on film immediately. He is an outstanding athlete who promises to continue to blow up on the recruiting trail.
