Alexandru Marchis, age 81 of Somonauk, IL passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, at OSF St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford, IL. He was born on May 27, 1942 in Romania, the son of Gavrila and Florica (Cuceu) Marchis.
Mr. Marchis was united in marriage on April 30, 1970 to Eleonora Cosma and they spent the next 53 years happily together. On May 1, 1976 they brought their family from Romania to the United States to begin a new life. He devoted many years of service as a machinist at Aurora Metals. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized on December 31, 1980. He was a longtime and devoted member of the New Life Church in Yorkville, IL. Alexandru was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
His faith in God was his source of strength and is a comfort to his family as they mourn his passing. “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Rom 8: 38-39.
Alexandru is survived by his wife, Eleonora Marchis of Somonauk, IL; his sons, Doru (Lourdes) Marchis of Plano, IL, Dorel (Cristy) Marchis of Wheaton, IL and Calin (Jill) Marchis of Aurora, IL; his eight grandchildren, Jason, Cristian, Charles, Caroline, Annalouisa, Jerry, Margo, and Nora.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gavrila and Florica Marchis; his sister, Rodica (Jerry) McQueen and his brother, Aurel Marchis.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at the New Life Church, 3205 Cannonball Trail, Yorkville, IL. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Bristol, IL.
Friends may visit from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 1617 North Bridge Street, Yorkville, IL.
