Budget season is in full swing

City Council Finance Committee, 6 p.m. Tuesday. It’s week two of the council’s annual three-week marathon to review and revise the mayor’s proposed budget, and the Finance Committee led by councilor Jake Wilson holds hearings Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The following budgets will be reviewed Tuesday: parking, community preservation, strategic planning and community development, mobility, planning and zoning, housing, housing stability, economic development, the Redevelopment Authority, public spaces and urban forestry, law and “damages to persons and property.” The public may attend in person at Somerville City Hall, 93 Highland Ave., Central Hill; televised and watchable by videoconferencing, and posted online after the meeting.

New fiscal year talks continue

City Council Finance Committee, 6 p.m. Wednesday. Budgets under review tonight include health and human services, the Council on Aging, SomerPromise, veterans, libraries, parks and recreation, the Kennedy pool, Dilboy, community engagement, constituent services, SomerViva and PEG Access. The public may attend in person at Somerville City Hall, 93 Highland Ave., Central Hill; televised and watchable by videoconferencing, and posted online after the meeting.

Changes to energy code come

Specialized Energy Code Public Information Meeting, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Specialized Energy Code is a set of rules developed by the state’s Department of Energy Resources to regulate energy efficiency and renewable energy requirements for residential and commercial building projects, including new construction, alterations and renovations. Cambridge, Somerville, Watertown and Brookline will be the first communities to implement the updated code on July 1. Somerville’s Office of Sustainability and Environment offers a virtual presentation on the new rules and how they may affect residential property owners. Watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.

Meet the climate ambassadors

Climate Ambassadors Celebration, 6 p.m. Thursday. The Climate Forward Ambassador Program enlists community members to educate residents about climate change and encourage climate action. Somerville’s Office of Sustainability and Environment hosts a celebration with this year’s cohort, which includes about 25 residents. The public is invited to meet the ambassadors and learn about their work. The celebration takes place at Somerville High School, 81 Highland Ave., Central Hill Food will be provided. RSVPs are requested.

Paying for public safety

City Council Finance Committee, 6 p.m. Thursday. This budget hearing focuses on public safety spending, including fire, emergency management, police, animal control and E-911 departmental budgets. The public may attend in person at Somerville City Hall, 93 Highland Ave., Central Hill; televised and watchable by videoconferencing, and posted online after the meeting.
