Teenager drowns after vehicle enters Lake Cumberland

RUSSELL COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) – Russell County officials are investigating after a teenager died at Lake Cumberland.

The Russell County coroner said 17-year-old Cameron Powell of Somerset was pronounced dead just before 9:30 p.m. Friday at Clifty Creek Boat Ramp.

According to the coroner, Powell and one other person was in a car that entered the water. The other person was able to escape.

Powell is being taken to the State Medical Examiners Office in Frankfort for further evaluation.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife told FOX 56 that Powell had just graduated from Pulaski County High School

The incident remains under investigation by the Department of Fish and Wildlife.
