A warm-up is in the forecast, but is winter over?

With temperatures rising into the 60s this week, it may seem like winter is over and spring is finally here, but that's not entirely the case.

AccuWeather Sr. Meteorologist Paul Pastelok said the start of spring will be full of ups and downs with possible snow and varying temperatures.

Spring official begins March 20 this year, marking the vernal equinox — the moment the sun crosses the celestial equator.

Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter this year, but the reality will be a mixture of some warm days and other dreary cold ones.

Will we get more snow?

"I don't see any major snowstorms coming up," said Pastelok.

Somerset County may still see some brief storms between now and Memorial Day.

"Higher elevations could get an inch or two," he said.

On average, Somerset County receives about 96.2 inches of snow in an average year.

According to weather.com, the last two weeks of March will be on the warmer side, with most days reaching into the 50s or high 40s.

At night, those temperatures could fall into the low 30s, and that's when snow could gather on cars, roads and sidewalks.

Snow totals should be low, but Pastelok said there could be more on the way in April.
