Nathan Han Advances to U.S. Open Final Qualifying

Will compete June 5 at Canoe Brook Country Club

NEW YORK — Columbia men's golf rising senior Nathan Han is one stage away from competing in the 123rd U.S. Open Championship.

Han has advanced to the final qualifying stage following an even-par 70 that he shot on May 11 in a local qualifier at Paramount Country Club. The Somers, New York native will compete in his final qualifier on Monday, June 5, at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, New Jersey.

Local qualifying, conducted over 18 holes at 109 sites in 44 U.S. states and Canada, took place from April 17 to May 22. Those players who advanced out of local qualifying will join a group of locally exempt players in final qualifying, which will be conducted over 36 holes at 10 U.S. and three international sites. To be eligible for qualifying, a player must have a handicap index not exceeding 1.4, or be a professional.

The USGA accepted a record 10,187 entries for the 123rd U.S. Open Championship at The Los Angeles Country Club's North Course. The U.S. Open will be held at the club for the first time on June 15-18, 2023. It will also be the first time the championship will be played in Los Angeles in 75 years.

Han capped a historic 2022-23 collegiate season by becoming the first individual in program history to qualify for NCAA Regionals. He broke program single-season records for scoring average (70.24), scoring average versus par (-0.86), birdies (112) and par or better rounds (21). He also earned eight top-10 and five top-five finishes.

One of the biggest highlights of Han's collegiate season came in the fall at the Columbia Autumn Invitational, where the Somers, New York native tied an NCAA record with a round of 11-under-par 60. Han became the 17th player in NCAA history to ever card a 60 in collegiate competition. Han also won the Georgetown Intercollegiate at Liberty National over the fall with a score of 5-under-par 211.
