Fizzlestix impresses with specials, stellar handhelds
PERRY TWP. ‒ I'm no stranger to Fizzlestix Bar + Kitchen. I've been dining at the eatery since it opened in 2021. So, when the editors asked me to head there for a review, I didn't hesitate. You never know what you are going to find on their menu. I'll point out that The Canton Repository has reviewed Fizzlestix several times since it opened, and each time it was based on different parts of the menu. For the most recent, the now-retired Bev Shaffer spotted a flight of french fries and said we just had to try that. In addition to the eatery's old standbys such as burgers and wraps, Fizzlestix is always cooking up something interesting. I was excited to head back during October, after I had so enjoyed its incredible burger creations last Halloween. From the Evil Dead burger, a patty infused with chorizo and beef, topped with pico de gallo, burnt cheese, fried jalapeños and sriracha aioli; to the Jack O Lantern burger, a patty infused with brown sugar and cheddar and topped with bacon, cheddar, lettuce and candy soy sauce, it was difficult to choose what to eat. Knowing the chef always has a great burger

Some family traditions get passed down through photo albums, and some get passed down through a booth and a menu. In Canton, Ohio, one of the most dependable traditions has been running since 1926, back when Calvin Coolidge was in the White House. Grandparents who ordered coneys here as kids...

Good Neighbors: Stay Awhile Cafe
Experience global flavors at a cozy new coffee shop in Akron’s Firestone Park neighborhood. Opened June 6, Stay Awhile Cafe offers food and drinks inspired by Ana Borges’ Filipino heritage and Paulo Borges’ Portuguese heritage. “Building community is very important to us, especially since we are not from Ohio,” Ana says, “We hope that by having this cafe in a place like Firestone Park that we can accomplish this goal.” Stop in for a pastel de nata, an egg custard tart with flaky crust sourced from a traditional Portuguese bakery, or an ensaymada, a Filipino pastry made of brioche dough that’s rolled with butter and sugar and topped with Edam cheese. The ensaymada comes in original, chocolate hazelnut and ube — a purple root crop grown in the Philippines. Ana recommends the galão ($4.75-$5.25), a Portuguese latte with espresso and steamed milk. Stay Awhile has books, games and magazines for all ages, so visitors can linger and feel a greater sense of connection at the friendly spot. “We love meeting people,” says Ana.
