A Solon woman has been taken into custody after allegedly driving on I80 erratically and ignoring an officer’s lights and siren to stop her.

According to the police report, an off-duty Johnson County Deputy observed 37-year-old Amanda Gregory Sunday night, traveling eastbound on I80. She allegedly was all over the road at varying speeds, crossing the fog and center lines.

An on-duty law enforcement officer located the vehicle on the off ramp to Coral Ridge Avenue just before 9:45pm. Although Gregory was in the left turn lane, she reportedly crossed two lanes of traffic to make a right hand turn.  Emergency lights were activated, but Gregory ignored them. She allegedly continued even though a siren was deployed, crossing over 2nd Street and driving around a railroad crossing arm to get to the Taco Johns on the other side.

Upon contact, Gregory reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and the odor of ingested alcohol. She allegedly admitted to drinking and said she was returning from a concert in Des Moines that had ended at 10pm.

Gregory provided a Datamaster reading showing her blood-alcohol level at .194 percent.

She was charged with OWI first offense, improper turn, failure to obey a traffic control device, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. The OWI is a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to one year if convicted.
