A man from Soddy-Daisy was fined for dumping a whole bunch of trash at the North Chickamauga Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA) earlier this spring.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) says back in late March, wildlife officers Colt Elrod and Garrett Long got a call about several bags of trash, tires, a muffler and a portion of a car frame dumped in the protected wilderness.
The officers sifted through the trash and found enough evidence to lead them to a local business.
That in turn led officers to question 23-year-old Jayson Hood of Soddy-Daisy.
Hood confessed to dumping the trash.
But when he was encouraged to go back and clean it up, the TWRA says he refused.
Hood got a $250 fine to pay the costs of WMA employees removing the trash.
He was also given 5 days of community service and fined court costs fees.
TWRA is primarily funded through the sale of hunting and fishing licenses.
It is easy to dispose of trash legally, rather than taking dollars from the hunting community. We’re grateful for the D.A.’s decision,' Officer Elrod said.
