CAAL calls for investigation into WCPS following racial incident at Snow Hill High School

SNOW HILL, Md –  The Caucus of African American Leaders is calling for an investigation into another eastern shore school district following an alleged racist incident.

The group penned a letter to Governor Wes Moore earlier this month calling for an investigation into the Queen Annes county school system. They are now amending that request following a recent incident at Snow Hill High School. Some students organized a walkout after they claim the school baseball team used racial slurs on social media.

The caucus says they believe the students involved were originally suspended but reinstated by the administration, which they are calling a mistake.

“Now we have to re-iterate that letter since we have gotten a response and ask the governor to do an investigation as well, particularly with snow hill high school, this is not to be accepted we have to follow protocol we have to follow regulations,” said Caucus Convener James Jones.

We reached out to the Worcester County Public school system and issued the following response:

“Worcester County Public Schools (WCPS) has not officially been made aware of any calls for an investigation. Additionally, WCPS does not comment on student disciplinary matters; however, all disciplinary action related to the referenced incidents at Snow Hill High School fall within the range of consequences outlined in the WCPS Student Code of Conduct.”

The town of Snow Hill is announcing a reconciliation meeting that will be held Wednesday, April 5th,  the Superintendent of Schools and the Principal of Snow Hill High School will participate in the meeting and will be monitored by the Tri-County Mediation Center, Salisbury, MD. The community is invited to the meeting.
