Thief Breaks Into Business Next To Police Station

SMITHFIELD – Police are searching for a brazen thief who broke into an automotive repair shop, adjacent to the Smithfield Police Department.

The owner of Market Street Automotive at 440 E. Market Street arrived at work around 8:00am Monday, March 13th and discovered the break-in. The thief damaged a glass window to make entry. Once inside the suspect stole a 9mm handgun and undisclosed amount of cash.

The owner said the business was last known secure around 5:00pm Friday, March 10th when they left for the day.

The police station is located directly behind the auto repair shop at 110 South Fifth Street.
