A man and woman with active warrants were arrested in Sisters Wednesday. The man had three nationwide felony warrants, including for kidnapping, coercion and menacing, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said.

On Wednesday, May 31, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Rays Food Place parking lot in Sisters after a deputy was contacted by a female who appeared to be in distress.

The deputy spoke with the woman, later identified as 32-year-old Shunea Elizabeth Myers of Marion County, who said she had travelled to Sisters from Marion County with a man who was wanted by law enforcement.

Myers further advised the deputy she herself had a warrant for her arrest; however, she said she did not feel safe with the man.

Myers identified him as 31-year-old Jamie Lee Denby, also of Marion County.

Deputies were able to corroborate the information "and indeed both Myers and Denby had active warrants," DCSO said.

Myers explained to deputies that if Denby was contacted by law enforcement "he would more likely than not fight." Myers also stated Denby was armed with a machete.

Deputies located Denby inside a vehicle in the Chevron parking lot seated in the front passenger seat under a blanket, sleeping.

All businesses in the immediate area were contacted and advised to pause operations while Denby was contacted and arrested.

The vehicle Denby occupied was contained by the presence of multiple deputies and the assistance of Black Butte Police.

"The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office armored rescue vehicle was utilized for the safety of the citizens, deputies, and also Denby," DCSO said. "By denying the vehicle Denby was inside any possibility of movement deputies were able to ensure the safety of those in the vicinity."

Denby was taken into custody without incident and the businesses in the area were advised they could resume normal activities.

"This event was resolved within 32 minutes and no individual was hurt or injured," police said.

Denly's charges: Three Active Nationwide Felony Warrants (Kidnapping, Coercion, Extortion, Assault 4th Degree, Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle, Menacing, and Unlawful Use of an Electrical Stun Gun, Tear Gas, or Mace)

Myers' charges: Warrant (Failure to Appear, original charge Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle)
