Sioux Falls East Sweeps Post 8 Still in Search of First Win

One of the top teams in the state, Sioux Falls East would sweep Post 8 in Sioux Falls on Tuesday with an 11-2 win in game one and then 5-4 in game two.

Pierre would give up a seven run bottom of the fourth after trailing just 1-0 through three innings as East would pull away with the game one win. Matt Hanson would hit an RBI double and Jonny Lyons a sacrifice fly to score both of the Eights runs in the top of the fifth. The Eights allowed another 16 free passes with 13 walks and three hit batters as East only needed five hits for the win.

In game two, Jett Zabel led off the game with a triple and brought in by a Hanson sacrifice fly to go up 1-0. Nolan Peterson would score the second run of the game as Zabel had a delayed steal in the second inning to give Pierre a 2-0 lead that would hold up until the fourth inning. Miles Doyle would throw three scoreless innings in the start and getting out of two innings with runners on second and third with one out. However, Jack Smith, in the bottom of the fourth would hit an inside-the-park home run to give East a 3-2 lead. Sioux Falls would tack on two insurance runs in the fifth and sixth to take a 5-2 lead into the seventh. Lyons would triple home two runs to cut the deficit to 5-4 with two outs, but was left stranded and the Eights failed to make a second three run comeback in the seventh inning in three days.

Pierre drops to 0-7 on the season and will face Rapid City Post 22 on Saturday and Sunday. The schedule for the weekend will be Pierre vs. 22 at 5:00 on Saturday and then Pierre facing Casper, Wyoming at 9:00 AM Sunday and then 22 again at 1:00. All the times are Mountain Time.
