SDHSAA Girls Golf State Championship results after day one

Sioux Falls Lincoln ranked sixth in the SDHSAA Girls Golf State High School Championship after day one.

The SDHSAA Girls Golf State High School Championship teed off Monday at three different locations with everyone vying for the team and individual state championship. The competition wraps up Tuesday.

Here’s how things shook out for Sioux Falls- area golfers after day one:

Class AA

The SDHSAA Class Girls Golf State Championship started at Hillsview Golf Course in Pierre.

Mitchell junior Allison Meyerink finished day one in first place in the individual championship. She shot one shot under par on the day and she holds a three-shot lead over freshman Olivia Braun of Aberdeen Central in the individual championship.

There were a total of four players tied for ninth including Harrisburg senior Mattie Weidenbach and O’Gorman junior Padyn Peterson. 

Michell also leads the girls team championship. They’re at 21 shots over par and hold a seven-shot lead over Aberdeen Central. 

O’Gorman and Sioux Falls Lincoln are in fifth place and sixth place at 48, and 51 shots over par. They trail fourth place Yankton by 11 strokes. 

Class A 

The Class A girls tournament was hosted at Meadowbrook Golf Course in Rapid City. 

The Sioux Falls Christian Chargers came out of day one with an early lead. They are 51 shots over par, four strokes ahead of second-place Vermillion.

St. Thomas More, Dakota Valley and Canton round out the top five.

The standings for the individual championship were tight after day one. Chargers freshman Tori Peterson was tied for third and only two strokes behind Roncali’s Claire Crawford, who sat in first place. Sioux Falls Christian junior Cecilia VanDeTop was tied with four others for sixth place, including senior teammate Claire Lamfers. The golfers tied for sixth were only four strokes out of first.
