Man wanted in connection to drive-by shooting taken into custody, sheriff's office says

Update: The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office announced Monday Kevin Bass was taken into custody in a tweet. Online jail records show Bass is being held on a $100,000 bond in connection to the incident as of Tuesday morning.

The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man wanted in connection to a drive-by shooting.

The man, Kevin Dewayne Bass, 30, is believed to be armed and dangerous, according to a poster distributed by the sheriff's office.

According to court documents, officers with the Sioux Falls Police Department responded around 3 a.m., on May 21 to a gas station in the 600 block of South Minnesota Avenue for a report of a weapons violation where they found a victim with two gunshot wounds to his abdomen.

The 30-year-old victim reported to officers that a vehicle had pulled up and an occupant brandished a gun, when he started to run but was struck by gunfire. At a police briefing on Monday, Sioux Falls Police spokesperson Sam Clemens said the victim was walking near West 14th Street and South Spring Avenue.

The victim was unsure who shot him, according to court documents.

Officers later learned that there was a fight disturbance earlier in the parking lot of a business in the 700 block of South Minnesota Avenue which was related to the incident, according to court documents. The victim reported to officers that he was involved in that fight disturbance earlier in the night, according to court documents.

Detectives with the Sioux Falls Police Department were able to obtain video footage of the incidents which showed Bass and the victim entering a vehicle and proceeding towards the business in the 700 block of South Minnesota Avenue around 2:15 a.m., according to court documents. Detectives obtained further surveillance footage which showed the two arriving at the business and then later fighting outside of the restaurant, according to court documents.

A complaint includes two charges of aggravated assault and two charges of discharge of firearm from moving vehicle within municipality against Bass.
