    Here’s how much more your Memorial Day barbecue will cost this year

    ( NewsNation ) — If you plan to have a barbecue this Memorial Day weekend, most of the fixings will cost more due to sizzling inflation.

    While nearly 44 million Americans are predicted to travel for the holiday, 52% plan to barbecue this weekend, according to a WalletHub analysis .

    The average cost of a Memorial Day barbecue this year is about $30, a 10% increase compared to last year, WalletHub reported.

    What to expect for your barbecue

    Whether grilling at home or attending a celebration, 83% of Americans plan to purchase food , according to a survey by data research firm Numerator. Meanwhile, 44% said they plan to purchase alcoholic beverages such as beer, wine and canned cocktails.

    While overall inflation is slowing down, and overall grocery prices only increased 0.3% in April , meat prices are driving the cookout price hikes.

    The price of ground beef burgers is up nearly 15% compared to a year ago, according to Datasembly data reviewed by NewsNation affiliate WXIN .

    Hotdog prices didn’t change; however, hotdog buns are up 0.98% compared to last year, and hamburger buns are up 0.66%.

    Relish is leading condiment price hikes with a nearly 50% price increase compared to last year, according to Datasembly data. Mustard increased by 3.16% and ketchup rose by 1.84%.

    Ways to save money on your barbecue

    If you’re waiting until the last minute to shop, it might save you some money.

    “Right now, it’s going to be a little bit higher. But I think if you wait maybe the day before you might see a little bit lower prices,” said Gary B. Smith, a NewsNation contributor.

    Analysts also suggest comparing prices at different supermarkets, buying store brands, and using coupons to help save money.
