SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A Colorado woman who had a pound of meth and allegedly stole a vehicle from a Sioux City car dealership was sentenced on Wednesday to eight years in prison.

According to the Department of Justice, Amy Cruz, 37, of Denver originally pleaded guilty on October 13, 2022 to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Cruz and another defendant were traveling from Colorado to Minnesota on April 27, 2022 to deliver drugs, according to a release. The pair allegedly stole a vehicle from the Sioux City car dealership before leading police on a high-speed chase, with speeds over 100 mph.

During the pursuit, the pair allegedly began to discard items from the stolen vehicle before they switched to a second stolen vehicle, the release states. However, they eventually crashed into a vacant car in Le Mars. Cruz and the other defendant were brought to a hospital.

“Several totes” were found in the path. Inside the vehicles were stolen marijuana, about a pound of meth, three firearms, and other items that had been reported stolen, according to the release.

On top of the eight year prison sentence, Cruz will serve four years of supervised release. The federal system has no parole.
