10 Mid-Valley high school games to watch this week

The fall high school sports season is approaching October and going strong, with games, matches and meets throughout the week.

Here is a look at 10 volleyball, girls soccer, boys soccer and cross country matches and meets to watch this week in the Mid-Valley.

For the Mid-Valley high school football schedule, look for the Statesman Journal Game of the Week preview on Wednesday.

Tuesday — McKay boys soccer vs. Corvallis

McKay’s boys soccer team hosts Corvallis at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The defending OSAA Class 5A state champion Scots are 5-1 this season, and this match will be the Mid-Willamette Conference opener.

McKay, which has lost only to 6A North Salem, is No. 1 in the state in the 5A OSAA rankings.

Tuesday — Silverton boys soccer at Woodburn

Silverton’s boys soccer team plays at Woodburn at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Foxes are 5-1 overall, and the Bulldogs are 4-1-1 overall.

This is the Mid-Willamette Conference opener for both teams.

Woodburn is No. 2 in the 5A OSAA rankings, and Silverton is No. 10.

Tuesday — Silverton volleyball vs. Crescent Valley

Silverton’s volleyball team hosts Crescent Valley at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in a Mid-Willamette Conference matchup.

The Foxes are 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

The Raiders are 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference.

Silverton is No. 6 in the 5A OSAA rankings, and Crescent Valley is No. 1.

Tuesday — Cascade volleyball at Stayton

Cascade’s volleyball team plays at rival Stayton at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The Cougars are 10-3 overall and 2-0 in the Oregon West Conference.

The Eagles are 5-4 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

Cascade is No. 4 in the 4A OSAA rankings, and Stayton is No. 13.

Wednesday — South Salem volleyball at West Salem

South Salem’s volleyball team plays at West Salem at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Saxons are 9-5 overall and 4-1 in the Central Valley Conference.

The Titans are 1-6 overall and 1-4 in the CVC.

South Salem is No. 10 in the 6A OSAA rankings, and West Salem is No. 22.

Thursday — Salem Academy volleyball at Western Christian

Salem Academy’s volleyball team plays at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Western Christian.

Salem Academy is 10-3 overall and 7-0 in the Tri-River Conference, and they are No. 4 in the 2A OSAA rankings.

Western Christian is 13-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference, and they are No. 1 in the OSAA rankings.

Friday — South Salem girls soccer at West Salem

West Salem’s girls soccer team hosts South Salem at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

The Saxons are 1-3-2 overall, and the Titans are 2-3-2 overall.

Neither team has opened CVC play yet. Sprague is 1-0 in the conference, and McNary is 0-1.

South Salem opens league play Tuesday against Sprague, and West Salem opens Tuesday against McNary.

Friday — North Salem boys soccer at McNary

North Salem’s boys soccer team plays at McNary at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Vikings and Celtics are both 1-0 in the CVC.

North Salem is 3-3-1 overall, and McNary is 3-2-2 overall.

The Celtics are No. 17 in the 6A OSAA rankings, and the Vikings are No. 34.

Friday — Stayton boys soccer vs. Cascade

Stayton’s boys soccer team hosts rival Cascade at 6 p.m. Friday in an Oregon West Conference match.

The Eagles are 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

The Cougars are 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Stayton enters the week No. 4 in the 4A OSAA rankings, and Cascade is No. 32.

Saturday — Nike Portland XC meet

The Nike Portland XC meet is set for Friday at Clackamas Community College.

It’s a big statewide cross country meet with a bunch of local teams, including North Salem, South Salem, Sprague, West Salem, McKay, Silverton, Dallas, Central, Stayton and Cascade.
