SILVER SPRING, Md. — Two drivers of separate vehicles crashed into a man walking and ultimately killed him in Silver Spring, Maryland, Montgomery County police said.
Around 1:50 a.m., officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to Columbia Pike near Hillwood Drive for the report of a pedestrian struck.
A man was hit by a driver in a red 2015 Lexus ES300h and another driver in a black 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee both were heading northbound on Columbia Pike, just south of Hillwood Drive.
The driver of the Lexus stayed at the scene after the collision, according to the Montgomery County Police Department. The second driver left and drove to the police station to report the collision hours later.
Police identified the pedestrian as 40-year-old Zelalem Yirga Adamu, of Laurel, Maryland. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not yet said what could have caused the crash.
This is an active and ongoing investigation.
