A 20-year-old Silver Spring man was charged after police said they allegedly found him with hundreds of fentanyl pills and a ghost gun Tuesday afternoon.
Business owners and residents in the Glenmont area complained to Montgomery County Police about ongoing incidents related to alcohol, drug, and disorderly conduct in a shopping center located at 12345 Georgia Avenue.
When officers were patrolling the shopping center around 4:50 p.m., they saw the suspect, Alan Garcia, and a girl in a stairwell behind 12331 Georgia Avenue, where "No Trespassing" signs are posted.
Garcia tried to run, police said, but officers quickly placed them both under arrest.
Police searched Garcia and found a large amount of U.S. currency and drug paraphernalia containing heroin residue, in addition to the fentanyl pills and a 9mm privately-made gun.
The gun had an illegal device that made it fully automatic, police said.
He was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession with the intent to distribute drugs, resisting arrest, and trespassing. He is being held without bond.
The girl was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and trespassing.
She was released to her parent.
