The Sigourney Savages kept up their undefeated start to the softball season by winning games Friday against Colfax-Mingo and Saturday versus West Burlington. The Savages scored once in the first inning Friday and put up three runs in each of the next two frames, but Sigourney put Colfax-Mingo away with a nine-spot in the fourth, allowing the game to end early with a 16-0 final.

Sophomore catcher Jospehine Moore led the Savage lineup with three hits, including a double. Senior Macy Fisch and junior Carly Goodwin had two hits and three runs batted in, while senior Courtney Hemsley, sophomore Ava Fisch and freshman Kenzi VanDenHeuvel had two hits a piece and combined to score eight runs. Goodwin pitched all four innings and gave up just one hit while racking up 10 strikeouts.

Sigourney got off to another fast start when they scored four times in the first inning Saturday at the Oskaloosa Tournament against West Burlington. The Savages went on to defeat the Falcons 8-1, improving to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the South Iowa Cedar League. Ranked fifth in the state in Class 1A, Sigourney will now have time to get some rest, as the Savages are off until Wednesday against Montezuma.
