Students continue to learn and enjoy classes at MCC’s College 4 Kids
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - College 4 Kids continues this week and students are currently enjoying classes about a variety of subjects. This program not only gets elementary aged children excited about attending college one day, it also introduces students to numerous subjects that match each child’s diverse interest like sports, agriculture, art, science, several career fields and even a class called Spa-La-La.
All WTOK channels are back up and running
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - UPDATE: All channels managed by WTOK are up and running after necessary repairs were made to the towers. Earlier: Crews at the WTOK-TV tower facility isolated the lighting issues with the tower. General Manager, Jacque Harms, says crews must work on a beacon at the top of the 240 foot structure. This will require us to shut off the transmitter at noon for repairs. She says, “We are hopeful that the repairs can be done within a couple hours as we know how important our programming is to our viewers.”

MBI makes arrest following death of patient at state hospital
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death of a patient at East Mississippi State Hospital in Meridian. Keshawn Carpenter has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death, according to Lauderdale County Sheriff Ward Calhoun. He remains in the Lauderdale County Detention Center with a bond of $250,000.

James Earl Chaney (1943-1964)
James Earl Chaney was a civil rights activist and a member of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE). On June 21, 1964, Chaney, along with CORE members Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner, were murdered by members of the Ku Klux Klan in Philadelphia, Mississippi. Chaney was born on May 30, 1943, to Fannie Lee and Ben Chaney in Meridian, Mississippi. He had an older brother, Ben, and three sisters, Barbara, Janice, and Julia. Chaney’s parents separated when he was young.

Meridian murder suspect transferred to state custody
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - A suspect in a double murder case in Meridian has been transferred to state custody. Maurice Christie, 28, is now being held at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility. He was on parole for a drug possession charge in Pearl River County when he allegedly killed Miles and Ina Herrington in April at their home on 36th Avenue in Meridian. He has also been charged again with possession of illegal drugs.
