Sinkhole closes I-385 on-ramp in downtown Greenville. Here's where
A sinkhole has closed one of downtown Greenville's busiest interstate ramps on Aug. 28, according to the city. The sinkhole occurred on the northbound-on ramp from Stone Avenue to I-385 on Friday. The South Carolina Department of Transportation said that the ramp was closed after "the discovery of a void under the asphalt". SCDOT said crews will excavate the area to determine what caused the sinkhole. Drivers should detour using East Washington Street, SCDOT said. The department also asks that drivers slow down and pay attention to the new traffic pattern when driving through the area. Repairs will begin on Monday, Aug. 31, according to the city. There is no date for when the ramp will be reopened. Ruth Cronin covers Greenville County business, growth and development. Contact her at rcronin@usatodayco.com .
