SHELDON—A 63-year-old Sheldon man was arrested three times in a six-day span on trespassing charges at three locations in Sheldon.

Douglas Paul Kooistra initially was arrested about 9 a.m. Sunday, May 28, on charges of first-offense trespassing and fifth-degree criminal mischief, according to the Sheldon Police Department.

His arrest stemmed from him being warned previously not to enter nearby property. The property owner contacted police to report Kooistra was on the property, and owner had video footage of him being on property and altering the light on the front porch, causing it to not function properly.

There also were water spigots turned on for an unknown amount of time at the property and another light dismantled on the south side of the residence.

Kooistra admitted to being on the property, according to the incident report.

Police also investigated a report that someone had removed flags put up for Memorial Day for the Avenue of Flags at the Sheldon City Park and threw them on the ground.

The property owner who originally contacted police said Kooistra had put one of the flags in a tree on his property. Police found a flag in a tree on Kooistra’s property at 511 Sixth Ave., which is east of the city park.

Kooistra was further charged fifth-degree theft and fifth-degree criminal mischief.

Kooistra was arrested about 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, on charges of first-offense trespassing and fifth-degree criminal mischief.

The arrest stemmed from him going onto another nearby property on May 28, knowing he was not allowed on that property, either, according to the incident report.

Kooistra also allegedly broke the property owner’s motion sensor light, which was valued at about $150, and turned on a water spigot and left it running.

Kooistra was arrested about 6 p.m. Friday, June 2, on a charge of first-offense trespassing.

The arrest stemmed from him entering on property of the Sheldon Christian Retirement Home about 3:30 p.m. that day and remaining there for 30-45 minutes.
