    New details in homicide case

LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- New details about the woman found dead in the Town of Shelby on Monday have been released.

According to the criminal complaint, deputies found the woman, referred to as E.F., deceased in her bedroom surrounded by blood with a knife in her hand.

Blood was smeared on the walls and on the carpet, indicating a struggle may have occurred. It also appeared to deputies that her wounds did not seem to be self-inflicted.

Responding officers determined that E.F.'s death was suspicious alongside her husband's behavior. This prompted deputies to arrest E.F.'s husband, Zachary Fritz, for 1st degree intentional homicide.

Fritz and E.F. had a 4-year-old daughter that woke up when deputies arrived. Fritz's father was contacted and notified of his daughter-in-law's death, which he responded to by saying "he killed her." His father agreed to come pick up his granddaughter during the phone call.

According to the autopsy report, a forensic pathologist found 50 sharp force injuries throughout her body and four bite wounds.

Fritz is currently held on a $1 million cash bond. He will appear in court for a calendar call later this month.

Suspect held on $1 mil bond in homicide case

LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- A $1 million cash bond is ordered for the suspect in a Town of Shelby homicide.

39-year-old Zachary Fritz appeared in La Crosse County court Tuesday. He's charged with 1st degree intentional homicide.

The victim, Fritz's wife, was discovered with bite marks on her face and stab wounds. Fritz claims she killed herself.

A criminal complaint is expected to be filed on Wednesday.

This is not Fritz's first domestic incident. Court records show he was found not guilty by reason of mental defect for a 2009 domestic abuse incident and institutionalized. He was to remain institutionalized for 9 years, but the court granted a conditional release plan in April of 2011, according to online court records.

In 2015, he was discharged from his conditional release program, as lawyers argued he'd not had any violations while under supervision.
